Everyday in Africa, 2,800 toddlers, between the ages of 1 - 5, die from malaria. April 25th is World
Malaria Day (WMD). Very soon, GRN's friends will be able to "Throw A Net On It!"
More to come. |

Letter from Dickson Mutiso - Loka, Sudan
Hello brother Tom,
I am getting stronger with your prayers and encouraging words. It is true our Lord God will restore what the devil took from us, and even make things better.
We will start working on buying bricks for the houses on Monday. We are also working to complete the finish work on the chapel and laboratory. I will try to get photos sent to you soon on all these projects.
Thank you for the money you sent. The bank could not pay me more than one thousand dollars without my bank book! I found someone who helped me get money today in Arua (Uganda). They asked me to re-apply for the bank documents that I lost in the fire to ease my future transactions.I have done that and am waiting.
I do not want to say how much we lost in the fire, as it hurts me a lot, but I believe God is on our side. SSRRC and the Commissioner of Lainya wanted me to let you know that they are sorry for what has happened to us and ask us to take courage. They are with us during these hard times.
We have paid school fees for Fikira and Sonny. I will be working on Grace's school next week in Yei. Please keep praying for her.
You may need to wait to come to Sudan, as all this takes money and we need all we can get right now. I know it is not easy for you to be apart from us, but please do your best to raise funds. Thank you brother!
Once more I am so sorry for the loss of your friend Glenn Penner from VOM Canada. He really helped our cause here. Bless his family. May God also give you the strength as we go through this challenging time together.
Love to you brother,
Dickson |

After a seven-year struggle
with cancer, Glenn Penner of The Voice of the Martyrs Canada and faithful
friend of GRN went home to be with the Lord on the evening of January 26, 2010
at the age of 48.
In
Sudan we have a saying that we use when trying to express our feelings about
something that is “bitter-sweet.” We say, “I have one eye smiling and one eye
crying.” This probably explains my feelings best when processing the passing of
my friend Glenn.
I
have “One eye smiling” when I think about where Glenn is right now. He is where
I long to be someday. In front of me is the book Glenn authored, called “In The
Shadow Of The Cross,” for those of us who are still living here on earth, we
are still living in the shadows, but Glenn has passed from the shadows into
Heaven’s perfect light. For this, one eye is smiling.
I
also have “one eye crying” when I think about what this means for his wife Denita,
Glenn’s children, his friends, VOM Canada, and the Christian community as a
whole. This is a great loss to all of us.
It
has been said that “love wants to be together” and how true that is. It is love that compelled Glenn to
serve Christ daily and it is love that glued the Penner family together. It is
love that makes tears run down my cheeks as I write this, and it is love that
will season the memories that Glenn and I shared. I, along with countless
others will miss Glenn greatly and it makes us want to be with him.
In
so many ways, Glenn taught us how to live and he has now taught us how to die.
Glenn was a gift from God to all of us and one day when we pass from the
shadows into heaven’s perfect light we, like Glenn, will have both eyes
smiling.
Please
know that my prayers are with all of you as mourn the death and celebrate the
life of my friend Glenn.

I just got off the phone (10:00am) with Dickson mutiso. He notified me that GRN's compound in Sudan has just suffered significant fire damage. A fire started by local people to burn the grass got out of control and has spread into the compound. Dickson's house, my house, the security guards house, and the guest house have all been lost. Half of the fence around the compound (3 acres), as well as other damage has occurred.
Dickson, has lost everything he had in his house – GRN's project money, clothes, computer items, personal family items, etc. He is dealing with this as I write this, and will need to find a place to sleep for the night. The team was able to break down my door and get some of my clothes out of my house before it went up in flames, so Dickson will at least have some clothes to wear. This is a big blow to Dickson, the Sudan staff, and the GRN team as a whole. They are dealing with this right now. They need our prayers and whatever else we can do to help them to recover from this. Dickson will be putting a written plan together to determine the process and cost of rebuilding. I should have this information by tomorrow. I will probably need to get over there as soon as possible, as to replace the necessary "non-African" items that were lost. We praise God that no one was hurt in this tragic event. Please pray for GRN... we really need it right now. Thank you.

Some thoughts on prayer from Jim Cymbabla
Imagine this if you can - God cannot "draw" crowds by Himself! Churches desire teaching about God, music about God, correct doctrines about God - but prolonged spiritual contact and fellowship with the real living God of the Universe is not popular in Christ's own Church!
Ministry in any form that becomes the focal point and not merely a guide to actual communion with the life-changing Savior is nothing more than a subtle form of spiritual idolatry.
Ministry that does not lead us to Christ directly in new depths of prayer and heart revelations of the Lord is not only a failure, but extremely dangerous.
Multitudes will travel distances or even pay money to hear "Christian ministries" yet not cross the street to wait a few hours in the Presence of One who is supposedly the answer to all our needs.
These thoughts were taken from an article called "What Ever Happened To The Prayer Meeting" by Jim Cymbala. Written for "Herald of His Coming" July 2009 |
