When
my brother John and I were little, we used to sing a song that went,
“O-B-E-Y, obey your mom and dad! O-B-E-Y, it makes them very glad!
Listen to the words they say, obey your parents everyday. O-B-E-Y, obey
your mom and dad!” John and I would go around our house singing that
song all the time. I liked the song because the music was fun to
listen to, and the words were easy to understand. Well, at least I
thought I understood the words. But if I understood so well, why did I
still disobey my parents? The reason was because the meaning of the
words were in my head, but not in my heart. Which means, I thought
about the words, and I knew what they meant, but deep deep down inside,
I didn’t want to do what they said. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:1,
Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. As I got
older, I realized that it is very important to obey my mom and dad. My
parents told me that the reason why they would punish me when I did
something wrong was because they loved me, and wanted what was best for
me. When you obey your parents, not only does it make them happy, but
it also makes Jesus happy. By honoring your parents, you are honoring
God too. |
