High Ideals
Life Thoughts

“We may never get one half or one quarter of the way toward the ideal. But never try to degrade God’s purpose and bring it down to our level. But by the grace of God put the standard up there where Jesus put it, and then get as near to it as you can.”
(John G. Lake)
“I long for love without any coldness, light without any dimness, and purity without spot or wrinkle.”
(Robert Murry M’cheyne)
“He that loves a tree, hates the worm that consumes it; he that loves a garment, hates the moth that eats it; he that loves life, abhors death; and he that loves the Lord, hates everything that offends Him.”
(William Cooper)
I have been called a man of high ideals. I have been told that I’m black and white. I have had people try to explain away my calling and temper my message. I have been told that I am extreme and different. I hope I am different, but extreme I am not.

When I was in Vietnam, I asked a pastor in the underground church if he would like his government to become democratic; he replied “It would be nice, but we don’t want to become like the American Church.” The other day, I spoke to a lady from Korea who called me a true brother in the faith (one of the best compliments I’ve ever received). She told me in broken English: “American church is so weak.” So what’s wrong with me; my standard is not the American Church. We in America like to talk about love, joy and peace; the persecuted church around the world speaks of surrender and sacrifice. Yet even with all their persecution, they are not my standard for living. Jesus is!

He’s the standard for which we should all be striving. Let’s not belittle the blood of the Lamb by pulling Jesus down to our level. Let’s run the race of holiness with passion. Let us join the angels in proclamation of God’s greatest attribute: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is the Lord! Let us lay hold of that for which Christ has laid hold of us. Love what He loves and hate what He hates. Let us run from sin and all that offends a holy God. Let us check our wedding gown for stains; if there are none, be exceedingly glad.

We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us for He said His grace is sufficient for us.

We can do it!
