Go And Do The Same
Life Thoughts

Dust covers Sam's feet as he walks down the road. For weeks this young entrepreneur has carefully planned his journey. Skillfully weighing the cost/benefit factor, he makes his way toward Jericho.

On his way, Sam thinks through potential deals in his mind. He feels confident that his journey will be profitable for his newly sprouting business. Focused and determined, Sam continues down the path that will take him to his first meeting.

With his characteristic bent on punctuality, Sam picks up his pace. Looking at the position of the sun, he knows that he has no time to spare. With sweat rolling down his brow and a blister starting on his foot, he pushes on.

With just a few miles to go, Sam hears something coming from the bushes on the other side of the road. Out of curiosity Sam stops to investigate. To his amazement he finds a person lying in the dirt, beaten and bloody. Seeing the broken man, Sam feels compassion and stops to help.

With his thoughts shifting from business to blood and bruises, he bends over to bandage the wounds of the stranger. After rearranging his possessions on his pack mule, Sam assists the man to get on and get comfortable. He knows that he must make it to his meeting, but he can't just pass by and let this vulnerable soul suffer alone.

Having the town in his sights, he makes his way to the nearest hotel. Explaining the situation to the hotel manager, Sam instructs him to care for the man and to help get his broken friend back on his feet. Sam also explains that he will pay the bill for the man's recovery when he returns from his business trip. After seeing that the man would be well taken care of, Sam continued on his journey.

This story may sound familiar to you. Sam is A.K.A. "The Good Samaritan" (Luke 10:30-37). It doesn't appear that Sam knew a whole lot about the stranger, except that he was hurting and needed his help.

After Jesus told the parable of "The Good Samaritan", he said to those listening, "Go and do the same."

Along life's journey, we will come upon many hurting people who have been derailed from life. We too will have to make a priority analysis and respond appropriately. As with Sam, I don't believe that God is asking us to abort our mission, but He does often ask us to stop momentarily to help a needy person get back on track.

GRN helps connect the "Sams" of the world with hurting, broken and vulnerable people across the globe. Let us help you "get connected", so you, too, can change a life. You can make a difference today!
